About
I am a population ecologist and postdoctoral scholar in the Marine Mammal Institute at Oregon State University's Hatfield Marine Science Center. In the broadest sense, my research investigates the occurrence, resource use and behavior of marine organisms at basic and applied levels. I've been fortunate enough to work and study across the United States, from photo-identificaiton of humpback whales in Hawaii to acoustic research on New England marine life and responding to stranded marine mammals in Central California.
I employ multiple methods and complementary datasets to answer the research questions for each project, such as diet analysis techniques and fisheries landings data. My work has primarily been focused on marine mammal foraging ecology, but I have also expanded my work into molecular ecology and life history. These projects have been highly collaborative and included collaborators in academia, government, and non-profits.
Outside of the lab I participate in outreach events and have given public talks on my research and marine mammal ecology in general. I also have a vested interest in DEI efforts and am working on transitioning from being a passive supporter to an active force for change.
